Big Bass 3in1: three little games that add up

I went into Big Bass 3in1 expecting a throwaway casual game, and mostly it is one — but it's a well-made throwaway. The trick is that it packs three fishing modes into a single app, and each one asks for a slightly different rhythm from you.

The core loop is timing. You cast, the line dips, and you have a narrow window to pull when the fish commits. Miss it and the fish slips off. It's a tiny bit of tension repeated over and over, and it turns out that's enough to keep me tapping for longer than I planned.

My advice: don't stick to one mode. The calm cast-and-wait one is great for winding down, but the faster arcade mode is where the game wakes up. Bouncing between them keeps the whole thing from getting repetitive, which is the usual death of casual games.

Performance was smooth even on a cheap test phone, and everything is one-thumb friendly. It won't change your week, but as a thing to open while waiting around, Big Bass 3in1 does its job cleanly and without nagging you.
